Wonder why tennis is classified as a basic form of sport? We can all claim to be able to play a game of tennis anytime, yet what challenges most if us is the physical part. There are some proven techniques you can use to prevent the feeling of dismay when you are about to lose a game. Even without any intention to ever play the game, it is good to get to know how the game is played so that you will understand it better.

Tennis

The court that is being used for the game must be a regulation court. Therefore all winning can be independent of the position of the player on the court in question since the overall size and maintenance is the same. There will be a net placed in the middle and two service lines placed in the middle. Next, there is the baseline located at the outer edge of the court, running parallel to the net. This is the spot where the players start the game.

The lines that mark the outer edges on both sides, vertical to the net is called the alley. The next thing you should know is the difference between singles and doubles. In the singles game, when a ball hits the alley it is considered out! In doubles tennis, hitting the alley is not considered getting a penalty. The same actions will produce different results in a single and doubles tennis game. Tennis is a two player game and one will serve the ball. To make a successful serve, you need to serve the ball to the other side and hit the service box.

The service box is actually a small box at the left hand side of the court. This box must be hit every time a player makes a serve. The ball must hit the service box and bounce off to be considered a valid serve. Those that do not fulfill this criterion must be repeated.

When the ball has successfully been served and bounced off the service box, then comes the most exciting heart stopping action of the entire game. The ball will have to be hit back cross the net every time the opponent send it across until one of them fails to catch it. To score points, then ensure that the ball is returned back every time it crosses the net and does not accidentally hit the alley when you send it to the other side. Your rival will get a point every time you fail to hit the ball back or if your ball hits the alley on the other side.

The ball needs to be served every time a player misses it, and each player will take turns serving it. This will provide justice for both parties, each will take the opportunity to serve in his or her own way. This has been a very brief introduction of how tennis is being played.
